Discovery Channel Marco Polo’s Thijs Zonneveld finished a strong 4th in the UCI 1.2 race Rund um Düren in Germany. After 160 km in the hills of the German Eiffel region he was part of a 5 men break. He attacked with about 2 km to go but got chased down by the 2 riders from Regiostrom in the front group. Marcel Beima took advantage from this and won. Discovery Channel Marco Polo Team was well presented in all breaks of the race. With Robin Reid attacking at the first climb and stay away for 100 KM with 10 riders. Thijs was also active and came in a second group to the front. However the race regrouped and  with one hour to go a first bunch included also Pol Nabben and Loh Sea Keong. Pol was with the only 40 or so riders that were in the result: 24th.

The Ethiopian guest  riders of the Bike 4 All Foundation (by Marco Polo Cycling) were racing strong in our amateur-club team that was in the race too. They stayed with the main bunch quite a long time. Especially on the climbs they could get to the front. But in the pushing for position and riding in the wind they lost too much energy and after about 100 KM the last of the 4 riders fell off the main field. There was only half of the field still in the race at that point.

A good start of the European season!!

Next Discovery Channel Maroc Polo Team race:
