Strong riding in Stage 4 Siam PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 24 January 2007

Stage 4 in the Tour of Siam was a very hard mountain stage of 185 km in (of course) hot weather. In the start of the first climb, there was a break-away group. Ghader Mizabani and leader in the mountain classification, Jay Crawford from Giant Asia and Azad University rider Sirous Hashemzadeh, decided that it was time to go. They had a very strong ride and took almost 6 minutes on the peloton that was controlled by the Nippo Meitan team from tour leader Koji Fukushima. At the 3rd climb of the day the peloton fell apart with most of the favourites still together. From the Discovery Channel Marco Polo Team we had 3 riders present, Thijs Zonneveld, Xing Yan Dong and Pol Nabben.

Mizabani and Crawford made it all the way to the finish. And Pol Nabben could still get away from the second group to take the 3rd place in the stage.

Thijs moved up to 9th GC and the Discovery Channel Marco Polo team now has 3 riders top 15, however it will be hard to still gain placings, because the last two stages of the Tour of Siam have no more mountains. We will have to hope that Giant ART and Nippo Meitan will fight hard and we can take advantage. Of course there may be another chance for a sprint win by Sergey...
