Chinese Xing Yan Dong from DCMPT was present in the main break Russian sprinter Sergey Kudentsov from the Discovery Channel Marco Polo Team gets another 2nd place in the first stage of the Tour de Siam in Thailand. After his 3rd and 2 times 2nd places in the Jelajah Tour of Malaysia, this is his 4th podium placing in 2 weeks.
The Tour of Siam started with a very fast first stage. The average speed over the 155 km was more then 44 kmph. After some small break-aways, a 17 men group got a serious gap. With 3 riders from the Australian national track team and 2 riders from Skill-Shimano driving the tempo, the group stayed away for about 100 km with a maximal gap of 2:30 minutes. For Discovery Channel Marco Polo Team, Chinese Xing Yan Dong was present in this group. Then the Japanese Nippo Meitan team from the Fukushima brothers organized a chase. In the last 5 km the last 3 remaining riders of this break were rolled in and the peloton went into a mass sprint. Discovery Channel Marco Polo Team rider Jamsran Ulzii-Orshikh took the lead at 1,5 km to go and brought his teammates at the front with 500 metres to go. There Pol Nabben took over and Sergey Kudentsov took over into the sprint with 300 meters to go. This was just too long and Ger Soepenberg from Altipower could pass him and take the victory and the yellow jersey in the first stage of the Tour of Siam.
