The Trek-Marco Polo Team had a great warming up for the season in Jelajah Malaysia. With Fuyu Li winning the first stage, leading for a few days and Sergey Kudentsov getting 2nd and 3rd in stages as well, the team scored well in the first race.
More importantly, the integration of new team members went well, the team cooperated really good to support their leaders and the younger riders showed promising performances!
Liu Yilin finished a surprising 14th in GC and had a top ten result in the queens stage up Genting Highlands. Loh Sea Keong worked very hard for the team, was in the breakaway when he was free to go and was the 3rd Malaysian rider in GC. Ken Onodera integrated well, was important in the first stage and just needs a bit more endurance, which is normal for mountainbikers when coming to the road. Xing Yan Dong had a bit of a disappointing ride up Genting, but had been working for the team extremely hard. Sergey crashed out of the race (with 3 chances left to win a stage…), his knee looked bad, but seems to recover well.
Jai Crawford finished 21st in the Australian road race; not as good as we were hoping. Leon van Bon is 6th in the Bremen 6 Day track race.
Over the next three weeks, the team will stay in a resort close to Genting Highlands and train well in preparation for the first real goal of the season: Tour de Langkawi.
